Metropolitan Opera Ambroise Thomas' Hamlet ‘Live in HD’ Rescheduled at the Ross for May 16

NOTE: Previous Encore HD transmission of Hamlet at The Ross was cancelled due to a staff scheduling mix-up.

The fourth season of The Met: Live in HD continues on at The Ross on Sunday, May 16 at 1 p.m. CT with Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet, with the powerful pairing of Simon Keenlyside in the title role and Marlis Petersen as Ophélie. Conducted by Louis Langrée, Hamlet also stars Jennifer Larmore as Gertrude, Toby Spence as Laërte and James Morris as Claudius. The Met’s new production of Hamlet by Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser opened at the Met on March 16 and was the company’s first performance of the opera since 1897.

Met Opera Live in HD Presents Rossini's 'Armida' at The Ross May 1st

The fourth season of The Met: Live in HD concludes at The Ross on Saturday, May 1 at 12:00 PM/CT with Rossini’s Armida, starring celebrated American soprano Renée Fleming as the mythological sorceress, Armida, in one of the greatest virtuoso roles from the bel canto repertory.

Fleming is joined by Lawrence Brownlee, who sings Armida’s chief love interest, Rinaldo, and five more tenors in the roles of the crusader knights. José Manuel Zapata portrays Rinaldo’s rival Gernando. John Osborn sings Goffredo, and Barry Banks, Kobie van Rensburg, and Yegishe Manucharyan are the knights Carlo, Ubaldo, and Eustazio, respectively. Riccardo Frizza conducts. The opera was performed at the Metropolitan Opera for the first time on April 12, 2010 in a new production directed by Tony Award-winner Mary Zimmerman.

Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the Met’s new production by Olivier Award-winning British director Richard Eyre, which features Barbara Frittoli as Micaëla and Mariusz Kwiecien as the toreador Escamillo in other leading roles. Christopher Wheeldon, artistic director and founder of Morphoses / The Wheeldon Company, created the choreography for the new staging.

Met Opera Live in HD Continues at The Ross with Richard Strauss's 'Der Rosenkavalier'

The fourth season of The Met: Live in HD continues on Saturday, January 9 at 1:00PM/ET (12:00 Noon/CT) with Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, starring Renée Fleming as the Marschallin and Susan Graham as Octavian. Edo De Waart conducts a cast that includes Christine Schäfer as Sophie, Eric Cutler as the Italian singer, Thomas Allen as Faninal, and Kristinn Sigmundsson as Baron Ochs.

This live transmission is hosted by legendary tenor Plácido Domingo; intermission features include live backstage interviews with the cast. The live transmission is directed for telecast by Barbara Willis Sweete; Jay Saks is audio producer.

'Turandot' Encore Rescheduled

Official Statement from the Metropolitan Opera:
 
During Saturday's (November 7) HD transmission of "Turandot," the Metropolitan Opera experienced some technical difficulties in the uplink of the signal to North American viewers. As a result, there were video and audio dropouts. We regret this inconvenience to our opera-loving customers.
 
These issues will not affect the encore presentations of "Turandot" that take place after November 10.

'The Met: Live in HD' Kicks Off at The Ross

Tickets for the fourth season of The Met: Live in HD, the Metropolitan Opera’s popular, award-winning series of live transmissions in movie theaters around the world, are now on sale to the general public in the U.S. 

The 2009-10 season, featuring nine live opera transmissions, kicks off on Saturday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m. ET with a new production of Puccini’s Tosca starring Karita Mattila. 

Met Operas Showing for Free at The Ross

To celebrate another great year of The Met Live HD broadcasts, and as a thank you to our loyal fans, The Ross is showing two selections from the BEST OF THE MET series for FREE this summer chosen by our audience: LA FILLE DU REGIMENT and EUGENE ONEGEN, showing on July 18 and 19 and August 15 and 16, respectively. 

Screening times are at 1:00 p.m. each day.  Tickets are free and only available at the door on a first come, first served basis.  The screenings are open to the public.
