Around-the-World Soccer Documentary 'Pelada' Comes to the Bourbon Theatre May 13th

Away from professional stadiums, bright lights, and manicured fields, there’s another side of soccer.  Tucked away on alleys, side streets, and concrete courts, people play in improvised games.  Every country has a different word for it.  In the United States, we call it “pick-up soccer.”  In Trinidad, it's "taking a sweat."  In England, it's "having a kick-about."  In Brazil, the word is “pelada,” which literally means "naked"—the game stripped down to its core.  It’s the version of the game played by anyone, anywhere.

Pelada is a documentary following Luke and Gwendolyn, two former college stars who didn’t quite make it to the pros.  Not ready for it to be over, they take off, chasing the game.  From prisoners in Bolivia to moonshine brewers in Kenya, from freestylers in China to women who play in hijab in Iran, Pelada is the story of the people who play.

Warren Miller's Dynasty Coming to the Ross December 5 & 6

Sixty years ago, an adventurous man with a pair of wooden boards strapped to his feet and an 8mm-movie camera in his hand changed the way we thought about snow. Today, Warren Miller is the most recognized name in the ski industry, and Warren Miller Entertainment® (WME) hosts the largest action sports film tour on the planet.
 
This winter, we celebrate 60 years of filmmaking with the release of Warren Miller’s Dynasty. Fresh cinematography and immeasurable talent explodes from Dynasty, showcasing the experience, the influence, and the originality that has grown from the action sports filmmaking institution that is Warren Miller Entertainment.  
 
Warren Miller’s Dynasty is showing at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center on Saturday, December 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 6 at 3 p.m.  Show times are available at www.TheRoss.org, by consulting your newspaper, or by calling the MRRMAC film information line at 402.472.5353.  Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students, members of the Friends of the Ross, seniors, and children.  Advance tickets may be purchased at the MRRMAC box office.
